What is Formestane?
Formestane is an enzyme inhibitor used as an antineoplastic agent. This medication works by reducing significantly the plasma levels of estrogen and has shown antitumour activity in postmenopausal women with breast cancer.
Antineoplastics (or "antitumor antibiotics", or "noncovalent DNA-binding drugs") are drugs that inhibit and combat the development of tumors. In the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System, they are classified under L01D.
This medicine is not yet approved by the US FDA, although clinical trials are being conducted to develop a topical form of formestane.
